Old-style charm is out as Aga goes high-tech and can even be controlled by a mobile phone

Old-style charm is out as Aga goes high-tech and can even be controlled by a mobile phone

My grandmother had a bottle- green Aga â€" soups simmered endlessly on it and there didn’t seem to be a time, day or night, when she couldn’t open its doors and whisk out a batch of scones.

Despite the fact frozen pizza is the height of my gastronomic skill, I fantasise about having an Aga. In my dreams, it would take pride of place in a stone-flagged country kitchen and its very presence would transform me into a domestic goddess.

The original Aga is being replaced by one that can be controlled by mobile phones

Alas, that dream is getting ever more distant. It seems old-style charm is out and a cooker you can operate by text message is in.

Aga’s new iTotal Control range lets you turn it on and off using a laptop or smartphone (the traditional Aga always stayed on) and its three ovens can be operated remotely.

But if it’s switched on and off in the day, will it lose its glorious bottom-warming properties? And what about cooking? Making dinner is hard enough without a machine so complicated you get a headache just turning the hob on.

And as for its £10,090 price tag â€" you could buy a lifetime of MS ready meals for that.

Sorry, Gran, it’s goodbye Aga and back to the microwave ready meals for me.

No way, there's no true country gent or farmer who will have this mobile phone controlled nonsense

You can't improve on such a classic! An aga is a great investment and my dogs love lying beside it! Definitely couldn't be without mine.

Dreadful as a cooker, great at bankrupting you via fuel bills because you can't switch it off. Oh, and needs a proper cooker kept next to it for a) the summer months when the AGA keeps the whole house overheated 24/7, and b) because it's not hot enough to grill anything

Would love an aga, have a modern range but would prefer an aga.

Well, if you want a cooker which can cook anything - the Aga Can

My lilac coloured Aga was the reason I bought my house - they are wonderful.

We've not long had out iTotal Aga installed. Yes it was a bit expensive, but it was on the wish list when we we're having our barn converted. If you have a smart phone you control the cooker by an APP. It even sends a text back to you to keep you informed if the oven has been activated or failed. Now I need an APP to turn the wife on and off.

Looks lovely!

I love my electric Aga...my bills are not so bad cos it ticks over all the time...great that I never have to heat an oven prior to cooking, it's always ready. i also use it to dry washing, and it heats up the downstairs of the house, so my oil bills are reduced. It's fab, but sady I didn't turn into a Domestic Godess :-(

Best stoves ever !!!! ... Wish I could have one in my flat.
