He's clearly extremely excited about becoming a father for a first time.

And now Robbie Williams will not be taking part in the Olympic closing ceremony - because it is around the time of his wife's due date, according to reports.

A spokesperson for the 38-year-old singer told the MailOnline that he would not be appearing at the event on August 12.

He can't wait to be a daddy! Robbie Williams will not be appearing in the Olympic closing ceremony because it is around the time of his wife's due date

'My two girls!' Robbie Williams posted a picture of his pregnant wife Ayda on his website today

He said: 'They were initial discussions but he just can't do it because his wife is about to give birth.'

According to the Mirror Robbie was said to have been given a high-profile slot to perform David Bowie’s 1971 hit Life on Mars? during the August 12 finale.

Robbie revealed he and wife Ayda were expecting a baby back in March and it's clear he can't wait to meet his daughter.

The singer recently tweeted a picture of his wife showing off her growing baby bump with the caption: 'My two girls!'

Ayda, 32, lifted up her T-shirt to reveal her growing belly in the snap, beaming with happiness.

She was dressed in a pair of cropped tracksuit bottoms and a tight-fitting T-shirt, and despite her growing stomach is clearly remaining in great shape.

Robbie announced the happy news back in March that he and his wife of almost two years are expecting a baby. Less than a week later, they revealed she is a girl.

It was recently claimed that the parents-to-be are contemplating naming their daughter Roberta, after her famous father, but also like Genevieve and Alice.

They have already shopped for the new addition at Petit Trésor, the exclusive baby store on Robertson Boulevard near their £9 million mansion in Beverly Hills.

Custom-designed sleigh cribs cost up to £2,400 and a Notte Fatata which stores nappies, will cost £9,291.

A source told the Star: 'He's always wanted to be a dad so he's going all out so his new daughter will be treated like a princess.

'He wants her top have the best of everything.'

And one of the singer's neighbours told the paper: 'It's safe to say he's completely gone gaga over his baby - and why not? He's a great guy and I'm sure he'll make a wonderful father.'

Williams announced that he is to become a father in typically comic fashion, writing on his website in March: 'Hey friendlies, I've been keeping a secret from you all. Me and Ayda are going to be a Mummy and Daddy this year!!!!!!!!

He added: 'We had sex! It works!

'We've seen scans and cried... looked at babies in commercials and teared up... the nursery is already planned.

'Basically I'm in love with a little person growing in mummy's belly... and can't wait to be a daddy. Crying now.

'Much love, much joy. Roberto, Mum and Little Bump. x xx'

I thought she gave birth already, must be one of those forever celeb pregnancies. Oh well, good luck!

Jealous. Humph.

She's clicking her heels like all her birthdays and Christmases have come at once- now that she has her hooks permanently in to half his fortune since a child is in the picture. It's not like she's anything more than an extra for her own career, even that was a failure for her. Sorry, but it's true. Red arrow all you like.

Don't know how he can put up with the nasal bleating of that woman- her voice is like fingernails on a blackboard, if you have ever listened to one of his radio "shows" on his website. All that honking, I had to shut it off. Can't stand her!

I wish them all the very best. He looks genuinely happy in the photo.

Thank you for that due date! He is just a karoke singer

well we can all be thankfull of small mercys

I'm glad Robbie has finally got the family he's always wanted. Very happy for him and I hope they all have many years of happiness.

Nice news well done Robster. Just a point - Life on Mars was 1973 not 1971 DM.

Good luck to the three of them and all the best for the future
