It is the publishing sensation that is credited with reviving the flagging market for erotic literature.

In the year since it was first published by its author EL James, Fifty Shades Of Grey has become a global best-seller.

Women everywhere have clamoured to buy the book and the sexually explicit novel, the first of an X-rated trilogy has become the fastest selling paperback in UK history - ahead of Harry Potter and Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code.

But there is one woman who will not be parting with her cash for the book that has been labelled 'mummy porn'.

Samantha Brick, the woman who caused an internet storm when she claimed she was too beautiful for women to like her, has hit out at the books, branding them badly written and demeaning to women.

'It's pornography aimed at women,' she said in an interview on This Morning.

'Giving it this name of mummy porn, using this kind of safe, middle-class word, makes women think it's okay to read it.

'I'm not saying they shouldn't read it - but let's not kid ourselves. It's degrading.

'The character is a victim. She's a virgin. She's negotiating to become the main protagonist's sex slave.

'That's not where we are in the 21st century. Women are the moral compass of society. It's us people turn to in the banking crisis, in the recession.

'We are the heart of the home and the workforce. The nature of the content of the book is demeaning and degrading to who we are.

Is it consensual? I'd say she debates it internally,' she goes on.

'For me there's a massive danger sign with this.'

We could have described the whole launch of the men's mag generation like this - Nuts, Loaded, Zoo.

But now the same editors who promoted them are saying "mea culpa, we shouldn't have been writing those things and portraying women in that way."

'I think there's a real danger, with the way that this book is being marketed, and forced upon us, of something similar happening.'

It's not only the fact that Fifty Shades is degrading to women that Samantha finds offensive either.

She believes that the books could pose a serious health risk - and that She worries too that readers of the trilogy could be injured if they attempt to emulate the action in the novels.

'There is a flip side,' she told Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on the show today.

'Without meaning to be flippant, sex games do go wrong.

'Hospitals are full of people who have been injured this way. Deaths have occurred.

'SM isn't to be taken lightly.'

'You have characters going into this fantasy world and there are no checks and balances in place.

Samantha also criticised the widespread availability of the book, slamming supermarkets and high street giants for selling explicit content where children could view it.

'Madonna released an explicit book in the nineties that was sold on the top shelf of the supermarkets in a special cover. It was sealed and there was a warning on it.

'But there is nothing stopping children and young teens picking up Fifty Shades, she said.

Now this as a woman that clearly needs a lil Christian Gray in her life.... come to think of it...........;p

I only got less than half way through the first book and I couldn't read any more of the trash. Besides the fact that I couldn't relate to a 21 year old virgin and a 27 year old "older man", the writing was poor and there was absolutely nothing left to the imagination. Not worth the effort.

It's a book for god sakes!! Heaven forbid a character in a book or anybody else enjoy a sex life! if you don't rate it.... Don't read it. Samantha Brick is obviously too caught up in her own prettiness to see that!

I dont care what SB says - but I have to agree - as a prolific reader of all genre; this is one of the most badly written books series I have encountered. It might have been a great series written by someone who could write!! Let's hope whoever does the screenplay can write with more professionalism

She is right though, the hype has over shadowed that this book is just really badly written!

She's soooo beautiful I can't get over it ;)

Her last name should definitely start with a P instead of a B!

One of my favourite 'Sammy' readers comments said, "She's the gift that keeps on giving."

I read the book on my iPad....and it is badly written..she repeat the same expression over and over again...but there is a story behind that book....what if....a beautifull girl ..met a great looking rich guy... and she became accustom to a great way of life and fell in love and get married...and than discover that he likes to tied her up and beat her and inflict as much pain as possible...would she still love him ...try to put up with it or run off...I would have like this book to be turn into a better story....demeaning or not thousand of women are beating by their husbands ...also we don,t hear about it some man do it for sexual gratification...at least in fifty shade she was warned in advance ,,,I was thinking while reading ..poor me who always wanted to live in luxury..going from Paris to new York in a private jet ..eat at the best restaurant and shop in Paris,,,I think I would put up with a few flagellation.....lol

I have a lot of friends reading it now....but I am not even remotely interested in doing so.
