As women with an ample bosom know only too well, their physique rules out all manner of summer wardrobe options â" in particular strappy dresses.
The problem is that it has been virtually impossible to find underwear which offers enough support to enable them to look elegant in a shoulder-baring outfit.
Now a company promises to boost the fashion potential of Britainâs larger ladies â" by offering the worldâs biggest strapless bra.

The world's largest bra measures up at a whopping 42k
Pretty in pink: The makers N Brown of the 42K bra, which has a similar style to this smaller strapless bra, describes the new design as a 'triumph'
At a prodigious size 42K â" the equivalent of a dress size 26 â" the bra, described by its makers as a âtriumph of textile engineeringâ, claims to accommodate the bosoms of some of Britainâs bustiest women.
It is made of polyester, nylon and elastane and has a toughened underwire to give maximum lift. The cups are fully lined and have strengthened seams to give additional bust support. The bra also has extra boning in the sides to enhance the bust shape and profile.
The world's largest bra is being sold by N Brown, which owns online mail order brands Simply Be and Figleaves
Despite being jokingly dubbed a âhammockâ, the bra, created by plus-size clothing retailer N Brown, is far from dowdy, with the firm crediting the garment for a recent rise in sales.
N Brown, which owns online mail order brands Simply Be and Figleaves, offers clothing for women sized 14 to 32 who have difficulty finding fashionable garments in regular shops.
Its chief executive Alan White said the strapless bra was one factor behind a 2 per cent increase in sales since February.
Since the 42K bra was launched around 12 months ago it has sold more than £100,000 of stock worldwide â" accounting for a tenth of the companyâs bra sales last year.
It has been so successful that the firm is planning on launching an L cup version next year.
Mr White said of the strapless bra: âIt involves very clever engineering to support what are very large weights. A âKâ is, indeed, a very big cup size.â
Costing £27, the bra, which comes in ivory and magenta, also has detachable straps which can be worn four ways.

It is a full three sizes smaller than the biggest strapped bra on the market, which comes in a size 48N, created by Rigby Peller, the Queenâs underwear retailer.
Average womenâs body shapes have changed in recent decades, with the most common bra size in the UKÂ having increased from a 34B ten years ago, to a 36D.

This is a British newspaper, my size 12 is not the FAT US size 12. Over the pond in Canada it's a 34F FYI.

- Man Of The People, UK, 6/7/2012 0:24 No, for every cup size there is an increase of 5 cm (about 2.5 inches) compared to the rib cage, so A is 2.5 inches, B is 5 inches, C is 7.5 inches etc.

- Sj, UK, 5/7/2012 21:15 Woohoo, we can see in the video what the 42K is, no thanks. LOL, there is no negative C, it was a joke, get it? All the negative overweight and obese women were underestimating the model as a B cup when she is a bit bigger than that. At a 12 E I'm more than satisfied, it's the heavy women who wish they were slim and curvy. Who said I want to be a size 0, I'm blessed to be slim and curvy, not an overweight or obese 'busty' woman who would be smaller than an E cup if she was my weight and height. That's the reason you stay overweight, it's the only way you can have b00bs. Have a nice day ;)

I'm a 36D. I've been wearing athletic bras for about 28 years. I just can't deal with regular bras, although I try now and again. The underwires, the flimsy shoulder straps, hooks - forget it! I hate jiggling and I hate "leading the way" with pointy breasts. Also, I'm a sweaty girl and athletic bras are made of softer materials like cotton (some even have mesh panels for increased air circulation.) As for strapless bras to wear strapless clothing? *LOL* That's not necessary in my case. Bearing down on 50 and not being exactly petite, I don't subject ANYONE except my husband to my upper arms and 'backfat.' And only him because he loves me anyway!
