'What do I wear in bed? Why, Chanel No. 5, of course.'
These are the words famously spoken by the iconic Marilyn Monroe.
In the 1950s the glamour of Chanel No. 5 was reignited by the celebrity whose unsolicited endorsement of the fragrance provided invaluable publicity.
Marilyn Monroe made Chanel No 5 famous but little did they know, she had another true love
But according to a new discovery, the late star had a love affair with another perfume, one which she kept very secret.
The unrelenting beauty may have died almost 50 years ago, but fresh secrets are constantly unearthed.
And now, one of her most coveted beauty secrets has come to light.
Prompted by the 50th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's death in August 1962, and the opening of the Marilyn exhibition at the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum in Florence, British perfume house Floris dipped into its customer archives and made an exciting discovery.
Marilyn Monroe's receipt shows a large order for her privately favoured perfume
The Floris team came across a previously unreleased receipt from Monroe (then known as Marilyn Monroe Miller), who ordered six bottles of Floris Rose Geranium eau de toilette in 1959 under the false name of a Miss Dorothy Blass, Monroeâs personal secretary.
The perfumes were to be sent from the Floris shop in Jermyn Street, London to the Beverly Hills Hotel in California, where Monroe stayed after filming one of her most famous movies, Some Like It Hot.
Monroe's secret perfume preference conjures gorgeous interplay of rose, geranium, citronella and cedarwood.

Toilet water?! - Nikki, Liverpool, 06/7/2012 16:13 ============ Now if this had come from an American there would be 100 red arrows and 100 posts about 'typical ignorant American' and 'stupid American'. But Nikki gets lots of green arrows and polite explanations. The American double standard once again. I find it very interesting and I'm not an American.

Please DM, can't we just let her rest in peace? We've come so far from the real Marilyn, her image has been trashed and people nowadays think she was just a dumb bimbo, which she was far from. Marilyn shouldn't be tabloid talk, she should be respected as a great icon and a wonderful actress. - Makayla, UK, 06/7/2012 15:56 ============================================================= She wasn't just a "dumb bimbo", she was a "suicidal dumb blonde bimbo"!

The fact it was eau de toilette as opposed to eau de perfume suggests she could of been using it to fragrance something other than herself. Eau de toilette is very watered down and it's not as if she couldn't afford the perfume concentrate. Geranium is a lovely room spray.

So someone finds a receipt from yonks ago and crosses out the name and puts Marilyn Monroe over the top in Biro. Geeze wish I'd thought of that one!

Toilet water?! - Nikki, Liverpool, 06/7/2012 16:13 Have you never seen Eau de toilette on perfume bottles? I suggest you google it and educate yourself.

Who can blame her? Floris rose geranium bath essence is amazing stuff, a few drops in the bath and anyone can feel like a movie star.

Yeah ok. That's why the invoice is addressed to someone else, whose name has been crossed out in pen and Marilyns written in its place. Are people really daft enough to believe this to be genuine?

Toilet water?!- Nikki, Liverpool, 06/7/2012 16:13 - Yes, that's the English way of saying it - the French translation eu du toilette (apologies for any spelling errors!) sounds much more romantic, doesn't it?!
