Simon Cowell’s younger brother is embroiled in a row over commission on a £28million student hostel.

Nicholas Cowell, 50, a millionaire, says though he introduced the eventual buyer to part-owner IES London, it refused to pay commission.

Now his Estate Office Investments company is suing IES for £336,000 commission on the sale of the hostel in Chelsea, west London.

He says he met IES’s Kenneth Cunningham in 2008 when Cunningham told him about the planned sale.

According to a High Court writ, Cunningham’s fellow director, William Hoye, emailed Cowell two years later, attaching details of the hostel, assuming he was interested in buying it.

Cowell met Hoye and colleagues in 2010 and explained that while not interested in buying it, he was interested in finding a purchaser as an estate agent.

Cowell says his business would act in this way for commission. He argues that because Hoye and his colleagues indicated they accepted the proposals, his company was retained on a commission basis.

IES Abroad, IES London’s Chicagobased parent, said: ‘We deny the allegations and intend to vigorously defend IES London in court.’

Nicholas Goldreich of Comptons Solicitors, acting for Estate Office Investments, declined to comment.
