With the semi finalists battling to reach the final week of The Apprentice, northerner Adam Corbally fell at the last hurdle and was fired.
Lord Sugar made Adam Project Manager of Team Phoenix with Jade Nash and Nick Holzherr, while Ricky Martin put himself up to lead Team Stirling with Tom Gearing.
For the final task, candidates had to create a new luxury product range that could be sold in times of austerity, and pitch it to industry experts, as well as Lord Sugar himself.
Gobsmacked: Adam Corbally was fired tonight after coming so close to the final of The Apprentice
Team Phoenix chose to make some designer high end chocolates and Sterling went for the mail grooming market.
After meeting product advisors they got down to producing their items ready to present to the experts.
Tom and Ricky found it difficult to agree on a product name but eventually settled on Modern Gentleman, and Jade came up with Sweet Thing for Phoenix.
Tough talking: Lord Sugar, flanked by Karren Brady and Nick Hewer, told the teams to go off and make a luxury item to sell
The likely lads: Ricky Martin and Tom Gearing were teamed together as Phoenix and ended up winning the task
The losers: Jade Nash, Nick Holzherr and Adam joined forces to make Team Phoenix
After pitching their concept, packaging and branding, the teams headed back to the boardroom for Lord Sugar to interrogate them.
Ricky explained that he wanted to be Project Manager for the third time because after two previous losses in the role, he was determined to prove himself.
He outlined why they selected to produce a male grooming range before Lord Sugar explains that he felt that the branding was a bit boring.
Forward planning: Jade and Nick disagreed throughout the task with many of Adam's decisions
The talented two: Ricky and Tom discussed some potential ideas under the watchful eye of Nick Hewer
He said: 'A quality product looks the business, that didnât look the business to me.'
Lord Sugar then turned to Adam and Team Phoenix and explained that he was impressed with the visuals of their prototype shop, but questions their behaviour at the boutique chocolate shop.
Jade informed Lord Sugar that she had devised the brand name and Nick Holzherr added: 'Absolute credit to Jade. She came up with the name, she came up with quite a few of the product ideas.'
Product research: Tom went and spoke to a barber about male grooming and the best way to go about making merchandise
Team Phoenix split into two with Nick and Adam meeting their product advisor and Jade creating chocolate treats
Having taken in feedback from his advisers and judged the products himself, Lord Sugar revealed the results.
The reaction to Sterlingâs presentation was very good; the detailed research they had done came across, but the prototype shop seemed a bit sparse and the product branding was boring.
The retailers thought Phoenixâs presentation had the wow factor but as soon as they started talking during the pitch, it went downhill.
The scientist: Jade came up with many of the ideas and was the creative force behind Team Phoenix
All by herself: Jade had to make a lot of the calls on her own as she was not with her teammates for the production of the sweets
In the end, Lord Sugar felt that Sterling had the better business proposition as it was far more professional and thought out.
Tom and Ricky were not given a treat for this week's victory but they were at least through to the final, while someone in Adam's team would be fired.
At the Losers Cafe, losing Project Manager Adam was adamant that he will still get through to the final, despite his failure.
He said: 'Thereâs no way on the planet that it will be me that goes tomorrow, no way.'
Bland and boring: Lord Sugar said that Sterling's shop was lacking in creativity and looked poor
Business talk: Tom spoke to prospective clients well and gave an informed and well researched speech
Back in the boardroom, Lord Sugar questioned Phoenixâs pricing strategy and said: 'The price doesnât stand up in the mass market superstores, because itâs too expensive, and the price in the luxury store that you had wasnât expensive enough.'
Adam confessed that that was his responsibility but Lord Sugar asked about Nickâs involvement, as he had always seen him as a numbers man.
Nick defended himself and said that he had emphasised frequently to Adam that they needed a strategy, as well as insisted that they didnât dilute the brand and should choose luxury hot chocolate as their product, and said: 'I did try, but I failed.'
Karren Brady, however, chimed in and said: 'You didnât try that hard.'
Close shave: Ricky treated one nervous man to a trim while using some of the products that he had made
Overlooked: The final product was packaged poorly with a dull grey design and lacked information
Talking out loud: Ricky and Tom fielded questions from some professional buyers before the task ended
A confused Adam told Lord Sugar that he didn't know where it went wrong but Nick and Jade made it clear they felt Adam was to the blame for the failure of the task.
Lord Sugar, Nick Hewer and Karren then deliberate and Karren expresses her support for Jade, and said: 'She was the good parts of this task.'
Back in the boardroom, Lord Sugar asked the three candidates why they should get through to the final, and Adam quickly turned on his fellow teammates.
He said: 'I think Nick has fluked his way to the final.
'Jade, unfortunately, I've seen no special talents in her through the whole process. Jade hasn't proved she is good at in anything she has said she can do.'
In the frame: Team Phoenix made some chocolate treats called Sweet Thing, which tasted good but lacked a leading product
Front row: Lord Sugar listened to both pitches with the help of Nick and Karren before reaching his decision
Looking good: The test group seemed to enjoy the chocolates and jelly made under the Sweet Thing banner
Jade and Nick both fought their corners though and Lord Sugar was left with a tough decision.
Lord Sugar made up his mind and said: 'Adam â" Iâve got to tell you, you have impressed me in the manner in which you have thrown yourself into everything head first.
'That aggression, that ambition and that enthusiasm, that in itself is fantastic really, and youâre a good salesman also.'
The final five: The candidates sat in the boardroom to hear the result of the task
A fine performance: Ricky and Tom were sent back to the house without a treat, even though they won the task
He continued: 'If you win the task you donât get fired, simple as that. So I think all in all, on this very difficult decision Iâve got to make, Iâm going to have to say that â" Adam, I think itâs time for you to leave the process, youâre fired.'
A defeated but smiling Adam replied: ''If you ever need a salesman, you know where I am.'
Jade and Nick both breathed sighs of relief that they will be joining Tom and Ricky in the final, and headed back to the house.
Turn coat: Adam aggressively criticised Jade and Nick, before they defended themselves and blamed him for the loss
Not impressed: Lord Sugar was disappointed with the losing team and asked them who they thought was to blame for the loss
You're fired: Lord Sugar ends Adam's journey on The Apprentice and the greengrocer left the boardroom and the show
As he was driven away in a black cab, Adam reflected: ' Iâve always been a doer not a talker, I never give up. I'm sure mine Lord Sugar's paths with cross in the future.'
'Maybe me and Lord Sugar will meet again one day, you never know.'
The victors: The final four toast their success back at the house after making it into the final
High hopes: Adam thinks that his path may cross again in the future with Lord Sugar

So glad that Adam's gone, sexist and so cocky for someone who doesn't know nothing.

Their idea of the shop was good on paper but in the real world it was never going to work. The other was boring but it's supposed to be sophisticated, not tacky looking. Just hope Jade doesn't win, she is shockingly bad most weeks.

I lost interest halfway though tonights programme. I don't know if the episodes are being edited badly, but this years candidates have been bland and boring. Is The Apprentice only attracting accountants and former bankers, who we know are totally characterless? It's time the series was fired.
