In the latest of our occasional series on the travel habits of celebrities, presenter Sir Terry Wogan reveals why he doesn't do sightseeing and where he goes to find old-fashioned luxury...

Kicking back: Terry Wogan doesn't do sightseeing - just lots of relaxation

Favourite destination?

While we have a lovely holiday home in South-West France, I’d have to nominate the Borgo Santo Pietro hotel in Tuscany.

I took the family there to celebrate my 70th birthday â€" it was delightful.

What's it like?

A wonderful palace tucked away in the country. It provides an old-fashioned world of lazy luxury,  but with all the mod cons.

What advice would you give a visitor?

I don't do sightseeing and prefer to relax around  the pool. The local pizzeria is good. And five minutes’ drive from there is the hilltop town of Chiusdino, with breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside. In the town, you can visit the  birthplace of San Galgano.

Does travel inspire you?

I love travelling, but airports I can do without. My ideal holiday is just sitting around enjoying the atmosphere.

I am not into culture on a holiday, though when in France we go to the marvellous op era house at Toulouse. My wife and I did sample a short cruise for Children In Need, but I’m not sure cruising is my thing. I think travel inspires me to do nothing when I get there!

In which country do you feel most at home?

I have lived in Britain longer than my native Ireland â€" and I feel equally at home here. The truth is that you are most at home where your family lives, and mine is here.
