Jaguar Land Rover will invest £200million and create up to 1,000 jobs ahead of the launch of its F-Type sports car.
It aims to boost capacity at its Castle Bromwich factory in Birmingham to build the roadster and coupé versions of the car dubbed the 21st century successor to the classic E-Type of the 1960s.
The car will be launched officially at Septemberâs Paris Motor Show, with production starting in the New Year before the first models hit UK showrooms by summer 2013.

The British car company owned by Indiaâs Tata is on track for record pre-tax profits of around £1.5billion.
Last month it revealed at the Beijing Motor Show how demand for its new âbabyâ Range Rover Evoque has sparked an unprecedented 35,000 applications for 1,000 car-making jobs at its Halewood factory on Merseyside.
JLR chief executive Dr Ralf Speth said: âOverall we hired around 4,500 more people at the company last year. And we will hire a huge amount more people in the UK this year. It will mean more jobs.â
Jaguar Land Rover recently signed a multi-billion pound deal with Chinaâs sixth largest car-maker Chery to build its limousines, sports cars and upmarket offroaders.
JLR employs around 21,000 at its three factories in Halewood, and at Castle Bromwich and Solihull in the West Midlands.
Tata bought the company from Ford for £1.5billion in June 2008 and is to double investment to £1.5billion a year to fund a range around 40 models and variants over the next five years.
A new generation Range Rover is set to go into production at Solihull this autumn.
