The singer and actress, 63, on beating breast cancer, exercising every day, why she suffered from depression and how she stays young-at-heart

'I think eating well, and being positive and happy, are the best ways to stay young,' said Olivia Newton-John
EVER DIETED?
My weight has been pretty constant since my 20s, and never fluctuates by more than a few pounds. I weigh about 9âst, which is about right for my height (5ft 6in). If I eat too much one day, Iâll restrict myself the next.
BIGGEST VICE?
Dark chocolate, but thatâs pretty good for you â" in moderation â" so I donât feel guilty about eating it.
GET YOUR FIVE A DAY?
I donât measure it, but I try to always get some âgreenâ at one meal â " be it salad, spinach or broccoli.
WORST ILLNESS?
Breast cancer. I was diagnosed in 1992, when I was 43. I knew something was wrong because Iâd been doing regular self-examinations and felt a lump. I had surgery, followed by chemo, and I was laid low for the best part of a year. But thankfully Iâve been in the clear for 20 years â" a big relief.
WOULD YOU HAVEÂ PLASTIC SURGERY?
I havenât succumbed, despite the fact there is obviously more pressure on people in the public eye to look good. I think eating well, and being positive and happy, are the best ways to stay young. A smile is the best facelift.
EVER TRIED ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE?
Yes, Iâm a great believer, but I think it should be called âadjunctive medicineâ, because it should be taken in tandem with traditional medicine. I had both acupuncture and homeopathy after my cancer surgery, and also did some meditation â" and Iâm sure together they helped speed up my recovery.

'I weigh about 9 st, which is about right for my height (5ft 6in),' said Olivia
HAD ANYTHING REMOVED?
Nothing much â" besides my wisdom teeth and tonsils when I was a kid.
DO YOU WORK OUT?
Iâm pretty fit for my age. Iâm a great believer in getting outdoors and doing a bit of exercise every day, whether itâs going for a run or just taking a walk.
POP ANY PILLS?
I take green algae, which provides you with omega-3 fatty acids and enhances the immune system. I also take a liquid form of camu-camu, a vitamin-packed fruit from the Amazon rainforest made by my husbandâs company. And, at night, Fibrezone to cleanse my digestive tract.
EVER BEEN DEPRESSED?
Yes, in the years after my illness. If youâve had a serious illness, as I did, it can depress your immune system and leave you feeling low. I had some therapy and was on antidepressants for a while. But thankfully thatâs in the past.
B IGGEST PHOBIA?
Growing up in Australia, I was all too aware of the dangers of sharks â" and Iâm very careful if I go swimming in the sea. I remember listening to the âshark reportsâ on the radio on the way to school in the morning.
SLEEP WELL?
As a rule, I donât get to bed until midnight, and get six to seven hoursâ sleep a night. I like life too much to spend too long in bed.
LIKE TO LIVE FOR EVER?
Only if those I love live for ever, too.

Why do these so called celebs not have the courage of their convictions? If they're happy to 'succumb to cosmetic surgery', they should be happy to say so! I had some relatives from Australia staying with me last year, and Olivia was the cover girl on an Aussie glossy magazine they bought with them. I had NO idea it was her until I read the magazine. She looks nothing like she used to look. Or indeed how an older version of herself should. She was a beautiful woman, why not grow old gracefully?

Like madonna and a few other of today's celebs, this is one lady that I don't believe a word she says.

Joni Mitchell has a song with the line "Happiness is the best facelift" Always ahead of the game is Joni. Olivia has had loads done she is being disingenuous.

She 'hasn't succumbed' to plastic surgery? Yes, and was that a pig I just saw fly past my sitting room window?

What a load of tosh! That woman has had surgery! If not surgery then botox and fillers, she can hardly smile there is so much chemical in her face!! It annoys me so much when these so called celebrities deny the blindingly obvious.

How can she say she hasn't had anything done??? It insults our intelligence. She has the classic line free filler pillow face. These celebs must think we are all completely blind or stupid.
