The Premier League looks set to get more money for its broadcast rights despite chief executive Richard Scudamoreâs previous claims to the contrary.
It is appealing to the Competition Appeal Tribunal against a ruling by media regulator Ofcom that forced broadcaster Sky to cut the price it charges rivals to show live Premier League matches.
Scudamore claimed the move would reduce competition in the pay-TV sports rights market.

Disputed figures: City analysts estimate the Premier League is likely to see an increase of up to 20 per cent in the sum raised from the auction of broadcast rights
However, City analysts at investment bank Jefferies believe the Premier League is likely to see an increase of up to 20 per cent in the sum raised from the auction of broadcast rights that is currently taking place.
Under the existing deal most of the UK pay-TV rights are held by Sky, which paid £1.62 billion for 115 of the 138 live matches on offer.
US-owned broadcaster ESPN paid £160 million for the remainder. Overseas rights were sold for £1.4 billion.
