It is perhaps a crushing experience that many of us can relate to - you book a holiday for two and then split up.

It leaves you with the dilemma of either taking the holiday alone, with a friend or losing out on the money altogether.

But one heartbroken man is turning the negative experience into a positive one, by giving the romantic break he bought for his girlfriend away after they broke up.

Being Frank-enburg: Tom explains to YouTube viewers why he is giving away the Maltese holiday

Tom Frankenburg, from Nottingham, posted a video on YouTube called 'Tom Goes Crazy and Gives His Holiday Away' in which he says he will give the July trip to Malta to the most deserving person.

The 22-year-old guitar teacher explains in his three-and-a-half minute video that he is donating the trip as a way to not only get over his heartache but to make the world a better place too. He originally attempted to sell the getaway on eBay and 'couldn't get a refund on the flights and hotel'.

So he decided to give it away to 'someone who deserves it'.

Dressed in a grey T-shirt and checked shirt, to the sound of melancholic music, he says: 'We live in a broken world - a place where people get hurt, where war happens, where equality just doesn't exist, and I want to fix it.

'Obviously I can't fix everything but I can fix it a little bit and hopefully this video will inspire you to do the same, even if it's just a little thing.'

He adds: 'Like sitting next to that lonely kid at school or buying a homeless person a sandwich for lunch on the streets.

'It all counts and together we can make this place a better place to live in.'

The holiday, from July 3 to July 10, includes return flights to Malta from East Midlands Airport, a stay at a four-star hotel and car rental.

Mr Frankenburg said he will even contribute towards the £35 bmibaby charges for changing the names on the plane tickets.

He told the BBC he asked his ex-girlfriend before offering to give away the £1,000 holiday and has had about 30 email responses and has almost 2,500 views since the video was uploaded on Saturday.

Mr Frankenburg said: 'The majority of responses are not people nominating themselves. It's actually people nominating other people, which is really nice actually, that people are doing that.'

He has asked people to email him about claiming the holiday and invited people to film their responses as well.

nice

Who would ever want to go to Malta anyway !

what a beautifull person u are , YOLO

Bless his face! Well apart from his poor breakup at least he is a kind person. You don't see many people like him everyday. Malta is a lovely place to go- but it isn't really fun to go by yourself- I went with my b/f and we had a good time. I think it would upset him if he went alone. But it's a kind and generous thing to do to give away a holiday you've scrimped and saved for. Holidays abroad are expensive- a 4* hotel and car rental isn't cheap. I hope he finds someone better.

what a decent bloke

Grow a pair

@ jennifer zammit, macclesfield -- why are you bothering to post in the comments here? Go to YouTube and contact the man there if he hasn't already given away the trip. He should just go himself with a friend who is willing to pay him some money to recoup his losses. I hope this isn't some press-hungry guy and there really is a trip to Malta.

How about letting your ex-girlfriend take her new boyfriend? That would be kind too.

I'd have just gone on my own, holidays are more fun that way anyway.
