She took a fall tonight, and Katherine Jenkins' stumble could be detrimental to her future on Dancing With the Stars.

The 31-year-old opera singer had an onstage mishap that resulted in the evening's lowest overall score.

She and partner Mark Ballas came fourth with a score of 56 out of 60 after she slipped and missed landing on his knee during their salsa routine.

Her tiny misstep caused the Welsh singer to have what appeared to be a panic attack.

She immediately covered her eyes with her hands, gasping and shaking while Ballas soothingly repeated 'I've got you'.

Host Tom Bergeron also seemed concerned, telling her there was no cause to apologise.

Judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli each gave her a  9, resulting in a very generous score of 27.

Jenkins seemed shell-shocked, muttering over and over again: 'I'm so sorry Mark.'

She smiled briefly only when realising her score was relatively high for how badly she landed.

She explained to her partner backstage: 'I just felt my back go as I bent. I'm so sorry if I've let you down.'

It was an emotional time for the mezzo-soprano, who had just watched footage of her relationship and ensuing breakup with former fiance Gethin Jones.

Dancing With the Stars has been cathartic for the songbird, who said: 'The whole process has gotten me back on my feet again.'

At least she looked fabulous during her routine. Though earlier in the evening she said she was hesitant to show her stomach, she finally flaunted her midriff in a green belly dancer costume.

She wowed during her sexy routine set to Akon's Bonanza, but seemed far less confident after her misstep, which seemed to have left her injured.

It was announced later that she'll receive medical attention after the show, though she appeared subdued but not in pain during the show's close.

Her first routine went much more smoothly and earned her two tens from Inaba and Tonioli.

After performing a quickstep in hot pink flapper girl regalia, Carrie Ann couldn't help but rave: 'In order to make to the finals, you need to bring your A game.

'I don't think you did that. I think you brought your A+ game. I think it might have been your best dance ever!'

Maria Menounos may have had one of her best nights ever, but she too, was emotional during the ABC show.

During her taped segment, she cried because she didn't want 'to disappoint'. After her dance she admitted that appearing on the show wasn't about winning or losing, but self-achievement.

She and partner Derek Hough scored straight tens across the board for their first dance, an Argentine tango.

Their chemistry was off the charts, as the two gazed heatedly into each other's eyes, breathing heavily after their performance was over.

Their jive also earned them a high score of 29, tying William Levy for first place status.

The Latin TV star also earned a 59, first for a tango, then a samba.

Katherine pulled her back at the end of the performance. Her back had gone into an agonising spasm. She cried with the pain not knowing if she could even walk off stage.

Jenkins has turned into such a idiot! stay there love will you

first world problems

She looks awful!

How ridiculous to get upset by a stumble. She has her priorities all wrong - people are dying in the world and she gets upset by trying to seek fame for herself! Gethin, you are a lucky lad!

It sounds like she was well aware of footage of Gethin going on the show so she can hardly blame that, unless she realised half way through how attention seeking it makes her look. Incidentally did he give his permission for footage to be used for her sob story??!

She didn't have a 'meltdown', she hurt her back! You make it sound as though she was exaggerating!

I felt bad for Katherine; it seemed she was hurting. I hope she makes it to the finals.

Come on Katherine, you can make the final tonight!
