Morrisons has lost a bid to reduce the VAT it pays on disposable barbecues.
In order to cut tax, the supermarket chain wanted to split what customers paid for the throwaway items dividing the product into the barbecue structure, and the charcoal.
Barbecues, including the grill, the flammable lighting paper and the foil tray, are standard-rated for VAT purposes, while charcoal attracts a lower rate.

If Morrisons had been successful, it could have recovered £200,000 in VAT paid over four years.
Two other supermarket groups had lodged similar appeals, according to court papers.
Morrisons declined to comment.
