Shocked: Charlotte Chamberlain received a rude email after complaining about her food at Burger King
When a young mother complained about Burger King staff using a microwave to heat her food she received a flame-grilled response.
An email, supposedly from its customer services department, called Charlotte Chamberlain a âplankâ and suggested that, in future, she should go to McDonaldâs.
It has since emerged she was one of several unhappy customers who received abusive emails from a rogue manager.
The fast food giantâs advertising strategy is based on claims its burgers taste better because they are flame-grilled.
Consequently, Miss Chamberlain and a friend were shocked to find the burgers they had ordered were put into a microwave. They complained and asked for a refund before leaving the store in Corby, Northamptonshire.
Miss Chamberlain, 25, later made a formal complaint to Burger King. She was appalled to then receive the abusive email, which read: âMessage from the King. If you want cold food you onl y have to ask, you plank. In future could you please go to Macs. Ha Ha Ha.â
The mother of two said: âI was absolutely stunned, shocked. I couldnât believe a big company could treat a customer like this.â
The email was one of around 15 sent by the former owner of the Corby franchise.
He fell out with Burger King after executives became unhappy with the way he was running the outlet.
In bad taste: The idea of a microwaved burger did not appeal to Miss Chamberlain, but when she complained by email, she received a rather rude reply
The email to Miss Chamberlain
After selling up he hijacked the companyâs email system to hit back at those who complained. Burger King has since apologised to Miss Chamberlain and provided vouchers for free meals.
A spokesman said: âA former franchisee is no longer connected to Burger King UK Ltd.
âHis actions are in no way representative of the views of Burger King and our quality of customer care. As soon as we discovered he had unauthorised access to our email system, we immediately blocked his access and are investigating the matter internally. We sincerely apologise for any offence caused to our customers.â
Burger King confirmed staff are required to microwave flame-grilled burgers before they are ser ved as âa standard quality measureâ to ensure they are safe and hygienic.
âIf a customer would rather their sandwich is not put in the microwave, they are free to request this,â the spokesman said.
Apologetic: Burger King have said the person who sent the email is no longer associated with the company after Miss Chamberlain complained about her food from the Corby outlet

I sent a compliant to McDonalds over their really bad advertising campaign over here ( it centred on a woman wearing a really badly fitted wig that would have cancer patients really upset.... And I'm not one, thankfully)- I haven't seen it again since I sent the email. So if you want to eat it, go to Maccas and not BK. for the reason listed above.

Great advice, I'd sooner have a Big Mac than a Micro Whopper any day of the week!

Wow alot of spiteful and nasty comments here about the woman in the picture. Maybe these people should look in their mirrors before making comments on how the average joe looks.
