Jane McEvoy was fired from BBC1’s The Apprentice in April after making sales of just £10 in a challenge to sell second-hand goods.
But it hasn’t stopped her launching a new venture.
Jane, 29, who runs an own-brand food producer, McEvoy Family Foods, in Carrick on Suir, South Tipperary, with her husband Gary, is to launch her baby food range in Britain in August through Ocado.
Jane launched Harry’s little World, which sells organic, allergen-free baby food, in Ireland last month with her own savings.
She had the idea for salt and sugar-free organic soups without allergens such as eggs, nuts and dairy because Gary, a former chef, would cook them for their son, Harry, 3.
Harry’s Little World sells soups featuring vegetable-loving cartoon animals, including Pepper the Dragon and Leo the Lion, in Ireland at Musgraves supermarkets SuperValu and Centra.
Jane was praised by Lord Sugar on the BBC show for her business ventures, such as McEvoy Family Foods which makes own-brand food products for Lidl in the UK, but he said he hadn’t seen anything to prove her talent when he sent her packing in April.
Jane says she struggled with the ‘upcycling’ task on The Apprentice because she ‘did not believe in the product’. She chose to focus on getting more potential customers into the team’s temporary shop in Shoreditch, London, instead of selling the second-hand goods.
