A wine taster is celebrating the return of her sense of taste and smell after being without it for the past two years.
Michelle Price-Horne, 53, tried various treatments to resolve the sensory problem, which prevented her from enjoying her much-loved hobby.
At first her GP put it down to hayfever but after seeing a nose and throat specialist in March she discovered she had an allergy to house dust, cats and tree pollen - easily curable with a five-day course of medicine.
Back to the bottle: Enthusiastic cook, gardener and wine taster Michelle Price-Horne has now got her sense of smell and taste back
The retired architect only realised she had lost her sense of smell when she went for an aromatherapy session in May 2010.
Michelle, from Thurgarton, Nottinghamshire, said: 'My smell just sort of disappeared. I had two back to back colds but I didn't really notice at first.
'But when my husband said that something I was cooking smelled good or friends would comment on the smell of flowers in my garden I realised I wasn't experiencing the same things they were.
'I had a series of facials where the therapist would ask me to choose an aromatherapy fragrance and I would have to guess the smell. She began to get suspicious when I just said the smell was rose, when it fact it was triple strength eucalyptus oil.'
'It was when I started a wine tasting course and had to cheat by asking my husband what the wine smelled of, that I decided enough was enough,'

She went to her GP who tried various treatments and hayfever sprays but she was finally referred to an ear, nose and throat specialist in March this year.
Doctors at the privately-run BMI Park Hospital in Nottingham discovered she was allergic to house dust, cats and tree pollen.
She was given a five-day course of antibiotics to reduce the growths on her nasal membrane - known as polyps - along with powerful antihistamines -Â chemicals mainly used to treat seasonal allergic hayfever.
And two weeks ago, she was able to smell and taste for the first time in two years.
She said: 'Almost as soon as I used the medication I got this really funny sensation - my nose instantly cleared and I could smell everything, it was unbelievable.

'My first glass of wine after the treatment was amazing, I could finally smell again and it helped me taste it so much better.'
Professor Nicholas Jones, an ear, nose and throat consultant surgeon who treated Michelle, said: 'I wouldn't want to get people's hopes up because it
worked on this occasion, everyone is different and so are the treatments they need.'
