How Dallas airport's 'check-in of the future' will see passengers move seamlessly to plane using fingerprints and iris scans

Dallas International Airport is trialling a new scheme which should allow passengers to breeze straight through from the car-park to the runway without barely having to lift a finger.

Well, perhaps one finger - for the airport will use fingerprint scanners and iris scanners to hopefully remove the need for any security or queues.

There are two drawbacks: you will need to give your biometric data - basically a scan of your eye and a fingerprint - and you will need to stump up a $179 fee.

But frequent travellers through the airport may find themselves as pioneers for something which may make the stress of the airports a thing of the past.

Passengers would walk with their carry-ons through a 'screening tunnel', where they undergo a screening carried out electronically.

While that may sound all '1984', it does remove the three or so security checks carried out in the usual way.

So no more taking off of shoes and belts, removing laptops from bags.

Mark Clifton, vice president of products and services for SRI International, a Californian form that develops scanners, told USA Today: 'Instead of using a card or a pass, you would simply glance at a spot on the turnstile and it would open the gate if you were qualified to go through.

'It's very fast.'

The biometric firm CLEAR announced yesterday that that it will add the 'pre-check' security lines to Dallas in the coming months.

The cost is a pretty expensive $179 (£113) a year and applies to some flights including with American Airlines, Delta and Virgin Airways.

According to USA Today, 'if screeners notice anything suspicious, a passenger would still be pulled aside and possibly patted down.'

The site also reported that the The Federal Aviation Administration believes the number of passengers flying inside the USA will nearly double in the next 20 years to 1.2 billion flights a year.

NEVER! No way, no how. Next...

"How long will you be staying on Mars?" "Two weeks!"

It's DFW International (or Dallas Fort Worth International if you prefer)...there is no Dallas airport unless your are speaking of Dallas Love Field. And this is great! Hopefully they will employ people to monitor the security scans that have more than 2 brain cells in their heads...unlike the current TSA officials.

More like BIG BROTHER USA style. Another way to gather and monitor the every day, law abiding citizens data. I would NOT trust the US with any more personal info.

But I want to be groped and talked to like a dog by TSA!!!!

Gotcha!

I like the airport security check. You can inter react with highly trained and polite personnel, and if being a male passenger, you can always request to be patted down by by female security. Security automation will take the fun out of air travel check in.
