Chris Evans and his wife Natasha Shishmanian have welcomed a baby boy.

The couple's second son, who they have named Eli Alfred Michael Evans, was born at 4.52am this morning and weighed 7lbs 13oz.

Chris made a mad dash from the Hay Festival back to London last night after learning Natasha was set to go into labour and managed to be present for the birth.

This morning Chris posted: 'Eli Alfred Michael Evans says hi ! Can't wait to join you all out there. A nice quiet first day in and then I'll be right with you. Xxx'

Chris called into his radio show this morning to reveal the details of his birth.

He told Alex Jones and David Walliams, who had filled in for him at the last minute, how he just made the birth.

Speaking on air he said: 'Once upon a time there was a silly radio DJ who went to wales when his wife was four days overdue with their second child, thinking that mummy and baby might hang on until he returned from the fantastic 500 words short story final in Hay.

'But of course he was completely wrong as usual and two hours after he arrived he had to beat a hasty retreat to get back to London in time which he did just about.'

Last night Chris tweeted: 'Was at Hay. No longer. Back in the air. On the way to Baby Drop! Good luck with the show guys and well done to all the 500 Words finalists x.'

Eli was conceived through IVF and joins the couple's two-year-old son Noah.

Sadly Natasha suffered a miscarriage in 2010.

Last year The Radio 2 breakfast show presenter announced his wife was pregnant in his Mail On Sunday column and said: ‘Mrs E is in the family way once again. And yes, I can confirm she is... '

'Thank you so much to the people who made it possible. We are eternally grateful. You make dreams come true.

'My wife and I couldn’t be more thrilled . . . Like a lot of couples, becoming pregnant this time was not easy and to the extent that it was beginning to feel like it may never happen.'

Eli is the broadcaster's third child, as well as Noah he has a 25-year-old daughter, Jade, from a previous relationship with Alison Ward.

Never thought anyone could fill Terry Wogan's shoes/slot on Radio 2, but he has !!!! Congratulations to Chris and his family.

Congratulations. Love Chris, thinks he's great. Lainey, London....I'm guessing you're not lucky enough to have kids; I'm sorry for you. Not because you don't have kids but Because you're obviously not over it and take your unfortunate situation out on others.

That's their marriage ruined! Children are the best birth control ever! Ask anybody with kids how their marriage is going, it's usually not good.

Think chris is brill! Congratulations to him and his family.

Eli? Eli? Oh. Congratulations to them both!

iDiotic, you really are idiotic, I didn't say that. I was quoting another idiot if you read it properly...

Congrats to Chris and his family, wishing you all the very best. I love your morning show, love the whole team, makes my journey to work brighter,he has matured into a fab presenter, and along with his team mates, puts on a great show. xx

Amazing, really pleased for them, really miss his show now i live in NZ

Why or why did he let Alex Jones present his show. Surely, someone better was available. She made my ears bleed

Hated him on Radio 1 but he has finally matured into a very nice man! Congrats!
