To anyone who has seen the film 'Prometheus', it will be a very familiar story.
Humans and aliens may share the same DNA which could be part of a 'universal structure', according to researchers.
The building blocks of life exist in low temperatures and low pressure meaning they are far more likely to flourish than if they were more complex.
Whilst no concrete proof has been found yet, the finding makes it more likely they would develop on strange planets than had previously been thought.
More like the one on the right: If the theory by astrophysicist Ralph Pudritz is correct, we are more likely to run into a Klingon from Star Trek (right) than an alien from Aliens (almost certainly a good thing)
The theory was put forward by Ralph Pudritz of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario who built on existing research into amino acids.
In total there are 20 standard such chemicals, which contain the DNA from which human life developed.
Researchers have already synthesized the 10 which are thought to have existed millions of years ago - and also discovered these are most likely to be found on meteorites too.
Purditz has concluded that these 10 are simpler, need less heat and lower pressure than more complex acids, meaning they are more likely to survive in hostile environments.

And whilst the exact conditions of meteorites are not known, they are thought to be warm and hydrated which would make comparable conditions to a young Earth.
Purditz said: 'This may implicate a universal structure of the first genetic codes anywhere...
'There's a theory that they could be made in the warm interiors of large-enough meteorite'.
He added: 'Thermodynamics is fundamental.
'It must hold through all points of the universe. If you can show there are certain frequencies that fall in a natural way like this, there is an implied universality.
'It has to be tested, but it seems to make a lot of sense.'
In 'Prometheus' an alien race land on Earth millions of years ago where they decide to create human life.
In the opening sequence a human like creature is seen drinking a black fluid before falling into stream where the first creatures suddenly spring to life.
Harvard University systems biologist Irene Chen, who specialis es in molecular evolution, said the new work was 'interesting' but hard to analyse without experiments to back it up.

Just because Aliens may share DNA with humans does not mean that they will be humanoid. Humans share DNA with viruses like HIV or the influenza virus or bacteria like E. Coli, but these are not "humanoid" by any stretch of the imagination and yet they may actually be our distant cousins!!!

Oh dear, what a confused and thus confusing article. It does not appear to understand the difference between the building blocks of DNA on the one hand and those of proteins, So it's not clear whether it's just the "standard" amino acids that would be the same on other planets,OR the standard building blocks of DNA and RNA (the nucleotide bases and their constituent purines and pyrimidines) or both. Whichever building blocks are being referred to, they would be more stable at low than at high temperatures. But that's true of virtually all chemicals. Why is it that whenever I try to spell chemicals, it comes out first time as chemcials. I think I must have unusual DNA, or maybe different amino acids, or maybe both. Maybe someone in my ancestry was an alien.

All you have to do is look at creatures which live in the sea VS creatures which live on the land to see a 180 degree difference in physical makeup. The pressure of deep water, the temperature of it etc. are all wholly different to the pressure and gravity at the Earth's crust. A whale would be killed on land, crushed by its own weight, while a human would be killed in deep water without a collapsible ribcage. Earth has an exceptional range of creatures to consider, all equipped with the best physical attributes to help them adapt to their environment, and it's obvious that extraterrestrial beings are also going to also be shaped to adapt to their environment's atmosphere, gravity, chemical compositions, etc. If humans lived on Jupiter, somebody weighing 150 pounds would be 354.6 pounds. We'd probably need heavier bones, larger muscles and be shorter to compensate for the higher pressure at ground level. Aliens would only "look like us" if their planet had similar conditions as Earth.

Some alien races look just like us(Nordic), others are biological clones (greys) or huge intelligent insect looking (praying mantis). They monitor the Earth (UFO phenomena) but don’t want any official contact. Do your research, there have been leaks over the last few years (former Canadian minister of defence, US astronauts etc.)

Scifi often gets it wrong. To be able to design and build things you need highly articulate hands and fingers along with a thumb. 4 hands would be a waste and 2 hands ideal. One head with 2 front facing eyes. Tentacles etc would be of no use, how would you ever design or make a printed circuit board with big fat tentacles. Don't believe this rubbish God made the universe and mankind and the animals. 'Prometheus' is just a film and these scientific theories are utter rubbish.
